When we received a major RFQ (request for quotation) for diesel light towers, we got to work. Not just on pricing, but on understanding who needed this equipment and how we could offer the best possible solution. RFQs don’t always tell the full story, so we dug deeper and discovered the request came from a major Arctic construction client. Instead of simply quoting what was asked, we took a step back to explore their real challenges: Harsh weather conditions High fuel costs Sustainability requirements This led us to develop a smarter solution that ultimately saved them over $2 million CAD in operational costs. Here’s how we did it. The Challenge: A leading construction group working in the Arctic needed a cost-effective and efficient lighting solution for a large-scale project. They initially sought quotes for 68 diesel light towers (DLT-8C) but were facing several challenges: High operational costs: Traditional diesel light towers required frequent maintenance and high fuel consumption. Logistical difficulties: Transporting and managing a large fleet of diesel-powered units in extreme Arctic conditions. Environmental impact: A growing focus on sustainability and reducing emissions in line with corporate and regional goals. To overcome these challenges, the client needed a smarter, site-specific solution that balanced efficiency, sustainability, and long-term cost savings. Axiom’s Solution: A Tailored Approach to Efficiency and Savings And this is where we came in. We took a proactive approach by identifying the end-user behind the RFQ and engaging directly with their team. By doing so, rather than simply fulfilling the initial request, we developed a tailored solution that cut costs and increased sustainability. Here’s how: We recommended a hybrid approach. By replacing half of the diesel light towers (34 units) with electric light towers (ELT-4320), we significantly reduced fuel dependency. We provided a breakdown of total cost of ownership savings, highlighting maintenance reductions and fuel efficiency benefits. Equipped the client with a combination of DLT-8C diesel light towers and ELT-4320 electric LED light towers paired together, offering flexibility while cutting operational costs. Results: Over $2 Million in Savings The client initially faced higher upfront costs for Axiom’s diesel light towers compared to competitors. However, after a detailed cost analysis, they saw the long-term savings potential and chose to purchase directly from Axiom rather than the cheaper alternatives that would have cost over double during the course of the project. By working directly with Axiom, they gained: A tailored solution that optimized both diesel and electric light towers Significant cost savings exceeding C$2 million Better long-term value through reduced fuel and maintenance costs A trusted partner who understood their needs beyond just supplying equipment By switching to a hybrid lighting strategy, the client maximized efficiency while reinforcing their commitment to sustainability and cost management. Axiom remained available to provide guidance and support throughout the transition, ensuring the client could maximize the benefits of the new lighting solution. Conclusion: A Partnership Built on Innovation We’re proud to have played a role in this project, which demonstrates how our consultative approach goes beyond simply selling equipment. At Axiom, we focus on delivering custom solutions that provide measurable savings and long-term value for our clients. By looking beyond upfront pricing and prioritizing total cost of ownership, we helped our client uncover new ways to reduce costs and increase efficiency in a challenging Arctic environment.
